| Today we shall talk about music. To be specific, we are going to talk about an acoustic guitar that caused an epiphany for me.
You see, one day my boyfriend (at the time) bought an acoustic guitar.
It was beautiful. I was so happy that he was going to finally start on
guitar like he wanted. However, he broke up with me the next day. I
quickly realized that he had replaced me with a guitar. I even asked
and today that is still a joke between us. Yes, he picked a guitar over
this lovely lady. ;) But, I realized what this meant. He was more
serious than I had ever realized about his music. The same goes for his
brother. I am lucky enough to be a close friend with both of these
young men. Alex, the one who didn't replace me with a guitar (probably
only because he already had one), has told me that he cannot imagine
ever seriously dating a woman who didn't love music. Music is his first
love, his greatest love.
For the past three years, my greatest joy has become listening to these
two men. Our friend, Foster, has joined the gang. They now call
themselves "Appleyard" and perform at Common Grounds (Waco), Bon Giorno
(Colleyville), and where ever else they find themselves with their
guitars and violin. Traveling through Europe with Alex, I got to hear
songs as they were being written. I cannot tell you how amazing it is
to read the correspondence between him and his brother, Joe, and how
well their music mixes together.
Here comes my request. Go to their site and listen to a song or two. Then, go here and vote for Appleyard if you think they are as great as I do. It's a country/folk/rock kind of thing going on. If you want to vote
for the group that wants it the most, Appleyard is the clear choice.
This is what they do.
Much love and silver tambourines,

| I apologize for the lack of blogging. I'm writing now because I need to write.
I lost my grandfather 2 and a half weeks ago and I still hurt. Most of the time, I do fine. Every now and then, I can't help but pause my life and realize that something in it is missing. I miss him and I don't know how long it will take for me to look at his life joyfully instead of just noticing that he's gone.

| Well, things are going well enough here. I'm leaving to study in Spain in just a few days. I have a bunch to do before then! I'm really excited to get there and see the country I've been learning about. This should be a great way to come closer to my goal: being bilingual. I'm just so excited!

P.S. - This is an awesome album! LOVE IT!

| I asked a guy to my dorm's Spring formal (the May Ball). Here's how it happened: A committe was making our invitations. Anson is on that committee and I was just helping because I didn't have any homework due the next day. Well, Anson left because he had a project to due. Some of our groups were addressing the invitations and commenting on those who we knew. We got to Anson. I asked if I could address it. When asked why, I explained that I wanted to ask Anson to the May Ball and that this seemed like the perfect way. After some deliberating and suggestions, I decided what to write. Alas, Anson left his jacket and a pair of scissors. So, I was voted (unanimously, of course) to deliver his jacket with the invitation and scissors in the pocket. I did such and told him that the scissors and invitation were in the jacket. After coming back downstairs, I was so nervous that I decided to go back to my room. On my way, I chatted with a few people. Before I got to my door, my resident, Amber, said that she needed my help immediately with the invitations. I went back downstairs and we discussed how to order the invitations and get them delivered. Enter Anson. He says (and writes), "Guys, I just figured out something cool while I was doing my math homework. Euler's number is e which equals 2.7..., right? Well, let's assume there's a function f(x) = y. Then we can set s = 2.7...+ f(x). Rearranging this we get Y = e + s, so yes!" (I realize only now that because he was so nervous, he made an arithmatic mistake. I would have also.) To make this moment even more blush-worthy, everyone burst into applause. Well, that is how I asked Anson to the May Ball and got the answer in a way that only math geeks could really appreciate. As you can imagine, I was blushing/smiling/laughing. It was great and my friends were great to help out in all of this. I can't wait for the May Ball! <3 Clare the incredibly happy Bear
